America Hating Liberal Writer Sticks Up For Mark Cuban, Says National Anthem Doesn’t Belong In Sports

(Rallying Patriots) – Jemele Hill, a liberal hack who writes for the oh so irrelevant publication known as the Atlantic, recently penned a piece in which she stood up for Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who decided to cancel playing the National Anthem before home games, stating that this song no longer has a place in American sports.

Gee, wouldn’t you like to know who died and made Hill the arbiter of what belongs in American sports and what doesn’t? Seems like this lady thinks awfully high of herself to believe that any of us out here should really care what she has to say on this particular issue.

Breitbart goes on to report that the former ESPN host slammed the National Anthem in the opening sentence of her piece, published on Valentine’s Day, entitled, The Problem With Mandatory Patriotism in Sports.

“Playing the “The Star-Spangled Banner” at sporting events has become an empty gesture of patriotism,” Hill wrote in the opening of her piece.

The extreme left-wing activist then went on to heap praise on Mark Cuban for attempting to stop playing the song before home games. A source that is close to Cuban stated that the decision to stop playing the song was made due to the fact that not everyone feels “represented” by the patriotic tune.

The NBA came out and stated that all teams were required to play the song before home games, so that shot Cuban down pretty hard, however, according to Hill, professional sports still needs to rethink playing the song and consider bringing the long standing tradition to an end.

As far as she is concerned, “the Mavericks should have held their ground” and refused to play the National Anthem.

So what does Hill have against the song? She says that blacks no longer feel patriotic about America. She says that we are currently living in a time “when many people—including many athletes of color—are deeply uncomfortable with how patriotic symbols have been weaponized to undermine and diminish the humanity of Black and brown Americans.”

Hill then goes on to say that the NBA should have taken Cuban’s decision to stop playing the song and use it as an excuse to take another look at the current anthem rules. Hill believes every sports league in the country should stop playing it.

She then goes on to push the idea that one of the original verses of the song included a lyric praising slavery, as the verse said, “which includes the lyric ‘No refuge could save the hireling and slave, From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave’—has been interpreted as mocking or threatening the Black people who escaped their enslavers and fought for the British.”

This, of course, is a false characterization of this verse. Many historians have weighed in on the meaning of this particular section of the song and it wasn’t talking about slavery of blacks, but the enslavement of Americans who were then pressed into the British Navy. Chattel slavery was not what the verse was talking about.

Hill then complained that the song has been abused by Trump supporters, stating that they say “real patriots stand for the anthem” and those who don’t stand up are “traitors.”

And, of course, white supremacy.

“In the years since, Americans have seen far too many images of white supremacists waving the national flag and shouting patriotic slogans. The insurrectionists at the U.S. Capitol did just that, even as they tried to overturn a free election. Trump and many other Republicans who impugned Kaepernick’s patriotism now want the rest of the country to ignore the Capitol riot and move on. If it wasn’t clear before why people of color feel uncomfortable with the conservative definition of patriotism, it should be now,” she wrote.

“When the Mavericks stopped playing the national anthem, [NBA commissioner Adam] Silver should have been similarly accommodating—and taken advantage of the opportunity to lift the league’s anthem rule. Whatever the NBA decided was going to outrage someone. But mandatory patriotism doesn’t give Americans reason for pride; it only highlights the country’s failures,” Hill said.
